Slab forms:

You should have all your sketchbook assignments completed by now so that you can be working in clay.

Remember to wrap your slabs in dry paper towels after you first roll them, place them on a board and put the board in a plastic bag. This is so they can stiffen some so you can cut them to exact size the next day. The leather hard clay cuts much more precisely than very soft clay.

3/16- 3/20

Wheels are free to anyone that still needs to center clay for a grade. Last day is Thursday.

Work on Slab forms

Last day to turn in sketchbook assignments is Thursday

Remember to keep your slabs wrapped in plastic (no dry paper or boards) until you are ready to assemble them. Keep your assembled form wrapped well from day to day.

Refine the corners and surface of your form before you begin to work any details or add clay for details.

Mar 16-20

Quarter ends Thur 3/19. This is the last day to get sketchbook assignments 1-7 turned in for a grade.

Last week of the third quarter, wheel make up time is available for anyone who would like to work on the potter's wheel.

Continue to work on slab structures:

Remember to keep your slabs wrapped in plastic (no dry paper or boards) until you are ready to assemble them. Keep your assembled form wrapped well from day to day.

Refine the corners and surface of your form before you begin to work any details or add clay for details.

When you believe you have refined to the point of completeness, then you may submit your project to be evaluated by me. You will need the project sheet which has the grading rubric I will use printed on the back.

Mar 29- Apr 1

Table #1 on wheel through Thursday

Table #2 begins on Friday

Work on architectural sculpture

  • 1. Use tracing paper to trace entryway from drawing #7, =10pts
  • 2. Roll slabs. Remember:
  • after rolling rough cut slightly larger than needed, wrap in 2 layers of dry paper towels, place on a board in a bag.
  • 3. Second day, cut to correct size, use tracing paper pattern to trace door only on bottom slab, trace the rest of the entryway detail on the top slab.
  • 4. Work detail on the bottom slab door surface.
  • 5. Cut out door opening of top slab and place top slab on bottom slab. The door you worked/carved on the bottom slab will now show through the opening you cut in the top slab.
  • 6. Carefully attach the two slabs using a toothbrush. Be sure to completely scrub the entire surface area to be joined of both slabs.
